Sunset for SAP HEC or RISE with SAP?

If we trust industry experts or people living in the SAP domain day in and day out, they are calling SAP Hana Enterprise Cloud (HEC) a dying business. Launched in 2013 with the intention of driving more customers to adopt SAP HANA is one of the most successful offerings SAP has, and is currently trending low in the market.

SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud (HEC)

HEC is an Infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS) and is available for data centers around the world that are either owned by SAP or collocated with a premium partner to run SAP-based operations in a hosted environment with the advantages of being on cloud.  When a customer deploys SAP HEC, SAP first conducts a technology assessment of the client’s landscape and then migrates the applications and extensions to the SAP HEC infrastructure. SAP then undertakes ongoing application support and management, including upgrades, backups, patches, restoration and recovery, infrastructure monitoring, and event detection. If a premium partner is selected to host the client in their Data Centre, SAP still owns the client contractual deliverables and works with Premium Partner to deliver the services.

Advantages of SAP HEC

The main benefit of SAP HEC for most companies is that it reduces the time, hassle and cost of deploying and running SAP HANA and its applications. It’s also a more flexible way to run HANA that allows organizations to respond quickly to platform changes or technology innovations.

Though SAP never disclosed the number for customers using SAP HEC but it is estimated to be in 4 to 5 digit figures With the advent of SAP RISE, customers are looking to move away from HEC.
